Resilience in Bobole

By Rosa Costa | Country Director

In the rural community of Bobole, twelve women began their journey as small scale poultry farmers after receiving starter flocks of 20 chicks each in November 2025. What we are witnessing today is not only survival, it is genuine growth. Monitoring visits showed a 97% survival rate through the critical first month, and during the most recent follow up no further losses were recorded. Clean coops, proper ventilation, perches, and improved feeding practices all demonstrate that the women are applying the skills gained through training and mentoring. But the most inspiring development came next.

In January, nine project participants reinvested their own income to purchase additional chickens and expand their flocks, a powerful sign of confidence, ownership, and entrepreneurial progress. Among them, Mrs. Isabel stood out by purchasing 40 additional chickens, significantly increasing her production capacity. Others, including Mrs. Helena, Mrs. Laura, Mrs. Olivia and Mrs. Cecilia, also chose to expand their poultry businesses.

When Isabel first received her starter flock, she focused on improving her chicken coop and maintaining strong hygiene practices. Watching her chickens grow healthy and strong gave her confidence. In January, she made the bold decision to invest her own earnings and buy 40 more chickens. For Isabel, this expansion is more than a business decision, it represents a step toward financial independence, greater household food security, and the ability to plan for her children’s future.
