Olga's Journey to Success in Poultry Farming

By Marijke Frantzen | Chief Executive Officer

In the heart of Agosto village, Olga is proving that resilience and determination can turn setbacks into success. Growing up in a family where raising animals was a way of life, she was inspired by her older brother’s dedication to animals. As a single mother of two, she dreamed of building a sustainable future through farming.

Her journey wasn’t without challenges. Olga started raising chickens in 2019 with just two birds, and by 2021, she had an impressive flock of 70—until an unexpected poisoning wiped them all out. Though heartbroken, she was not deterred. In 2023, she started again with just two hens and a rooster, and in a stroke of good luck, was introduced to Kyeema and became a participant in our __ project. Through the project, she received 20 Boschveld chicks, along with guidance and training on sustainable poultry farming.

The training provided valuable skills, including basic techniques for raising poultry, sustainable farming practices, marketing, and record-keeping. Armed with this knowledge, Olga’s chickens are now thriving, and she’s seen a boost in both egg and chicken sales.

Now, Olga’s hard work is paying off! She proudly shares that there’s a high demand for her chickens and eggs. In February, she sold four chickens for 500 MZN (7,5 USD/12 AUD) each, and today, she has a thriving flock of 25 birds, including two laying hens.

“The project was a light at the end of the tunnel,” Olga says. “It has reignited my dream of becoming a successful poultry farmer and small business owner.”

Her story is a testament to perseverance, the power of opportunity, and the impact of the right support at the right time. Thanks to the training and guidance provided by the project, Olga is not just raising chickens—she’s building a brighter future for herself and her daughters.

Every contribution helps make success stories like Olga’s possible! Thank you to the GlobalGiving community for being part of this journey.
