Challenge

About 1.8 million women suffer from physical domestic violence in Ukraine and this number is growing because of COVID-19 pandemy. Most of them are from vulnerable families. Women have no place to go, no sufficient income and no support of close people. They start to drink alcohol to hide from the constant stress. Their children have emotional trauma. We want to give to women in difficulties a real chance for new life, chance to be more independent, confident, competent and resilience.

Solution

The computer class will be launched in Women's Protection Center in Odessa city. Women and girls who live and get services in Center could search for work, learn online, or chat. Training, practice and individual mentoring will be provided for them on digital literacy. 30 women and girls per year will enhance basic computer skills, how to use such tools as Google package, OpenOffice package, social media, how to sale online, to make CV, to protect from scammers and theft of personal data.

Long-Term Impact

Building digital skills for people who need to apply for benefits online, or access services online such as housing is a priority of project. Women will learn how to effectively use digital equipment to communicate, educate themselves and research. This will also help them achieve economic independence. Women in difficulties will be able to successfully overcome the consequences of domestic or sexual violence.
