Helping Babies in Haiti

As a supporter of Jake’s Diapers, you have personally helped enable families in Haiti to rise out of poverty and raise healthy children, overcoming their need to choose between food, clean water, or diapers.

Take "P.I." for example, whose mother suffered from seizures when she was 5 months pregnant, leading to his premature birth. Unfortunately P.I. lost his mom just 11 days after his birth. His father relied on clinic resources to help the little guy thrive and P.I. grew from 4.5 pounds to 7.75 pounds within a month of receiving formula from the clinic. With support from Jake’s Diapers, this clinic is able to serve parents like P.I.'s father, infants and other caregivers in need.

This is all possible because of partnerships with donors like you and other charitable organizations that empower our cause. As you may already know, GlobalGiving allows nonprofits like Jake's Diapers to reach a wider audience and earn more dollars through its generous platform challenges, thus helping more babies in desperate situations. In one week, we have a big opportunity to continue maximizing that impact and help more babies like P.I.

It’s also important to donate as soon as possible on this day to capitalize on the matching funds before they run out. Last year, the funds ran out in the first half hour!!

• The Story of Jake's Diapers

When we think of basic needs, we tend to think of food, clothing, shelter, and water. Diapers are an overlooked, yet so important basic need. Thank you for your continued support as together, we're providing diapers to babies in difficult situations. It's a joy to introduce you to Edisson, to share a little glimpse of his story before & after malnutrition treatment. 

1 year old Eddison was brought to clinic at Real Hope for Haiti because of diarrhea, fever and vomiting. His primary caregiver is his grandmother, and he lives with three siblings, his grandparents, and his mother (with a mental illness). They live in a two room house made of block and tin, and they have a small outhouse. His diet consists of mashed bananas, la bouye (soup) and crackers. He was showing signs of illness for three weeks and not improving, so his grandmother brought him 45 minutes by moto to Real Hope for Haiti. 

He was extremely sick, weighing 8 ½ lbs – very weak, unable to hold up his head, and sleeping most of the time. He was diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition, and admitted to the Rescue Center to receive inpatient care. Once Eddison began to feel better, he began to crawl some. After 19 weeks in the Rescue Center, he now weighs 16 ½ lbs. He is a very happy baby, loves to be tickled and laughs a lot!

Because of your continued support, Real Hope for Haiti has a reliable supply of diapers to keep Edisson and the other children there clean, dry. and healthy.
