Your kind donation to Jake's Diapers, in support of our Saving Haitian Babies project, is doing just that. Saving Haitian Babies.
Through your generous support, the Rescue Center at Real Hope for Haiti now has Tiny Blue Diapers, for tiny little babies, like Neila.
Neila's life hasn't been easy. She's just 10 months old, and has already survived two bouts of Kwashiorkor. Kwashiorkor is a form of malnutrition that occurs when there isn't enough protein in the diet, most often seen in regions experiencing famine. This third bout has been extremely tough (not that any bouts are easy). Neila's body became so swollen with edema, caused by the extreme lack of protein causing an osmotic imbalance, thus causing her precious body to retain and swell, with skin blistering and splitting. Neila was also having challenges breathing, and she and her Mother made the challenging trek to the Rescue Center. This meant a boat ride to the mainland, for they call Lagonav Island home, to a car ride, and finaly, by motorcycle. She weighed 14.3 lbs at arrival.
Admitted into the Rescue Center, she now receives a specialized nutritional peanut butter paste, Medika Mamba, which is designed for the treatment of Kwashiorkor. She still fits in the Tiny Blue Diapers, which are designed for tiny babies from 5 to 12 lbs. But not for long!
Because of the amazing love, care, and specialized nutrition she and her other tiny friends receive, she will soon be out of Tiny Blue Diapers, which your amazing love, care, and support provided. The next step in solving diaper need for Neila and the other children like her is the next size of diaper: Little Green Diapers, and then Not-So-Little Yellow Diapers.
By meeting the Rescue Center's diaper need, they can focus on the day to day treatment, prevention, and care of those 75 little babies currently in inpatient care. To obliterate diaper need, it takes a village. Today, our village has an amazing opportunity to make history. Today begins the Little by Little campaign, when all donations up to $50 are matched. Together, we can do this. Every little bit helps. And that's not all. In addition to the amazing monetary matches, our friends at Nicki's Diapers have posed a fun challenge... when we raise funds for 500 cloth diapers, they'll donate an additional 500 diapers. This means TWICE AS MANY LIVES IMPACTED!
