Empower Douala's Women and Youth! Action Lab For Development & Tobby Vision Computers' proposed project will launch a design thinking project to equip women and disadvantaged youth with problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills for entrepreneurship or employment. This locally-tailored initiative fosters inclusivity and economic stability through community engagement and private sector partnerships. Sustainable and scalable, it seeks to empower future generations across Cameroon.
Education and societal norms limit opportunities for Douala women. Stereotypes push girls towards care work and marriage, hindering their educational choices. Even with qualifications, they face lower pay, less job security, and limited career options due to family expectations. Additionally, self-employment challenges are amplified for women. While change is happening, women still struggle for equal rights despite legal equality existing on paper.
Participants in our seminars will learn a new approach to problem solving through the method of design thinking. This will make them an asset to any potential employer, as they will have an approach on how to proceed in difficult situations. They will be more flexible, creative and efficient than other employees. It is a valuable tool for employers who want to create innovative solutions that are tailored to the needs of their customers and foster a culture of innovation in their organisation
Unique & Impactful: Empowering Douala. This project stands out by using design thinking to empower marginalized groups (women, vulnerable youth, disabled youth) in Douala, Cameroon. Led by locals, it addresses the region's specific needs and fosters inclusivity. Sharing knowledge and results will benefit others. A strong monitoring system and focus on scalability, sustainability, and community engagement ensure lasting change. This project has the potential to be a model for future initiatives.
