At Cameras For Girls, we are developing a sustainable training program to advance Cameras For Girls' mission of promoting gender equality in Africa. This initiative will empower former students to mentor new students, fostering growth and skill development. Simultaneously, this program will significantly enhance gender equity within Africa's male-dominated journalism and photography sectors, promoting greater opportunities and representation for women in these industries.
Our founder and CEO, Amina Mohamed, is the sole trainer of all our African programming. She is also the executive director and the founder who runs the day-to-day operations. To sustain and grow the program, we seek to build a "train the trainer" program for former students and other women photographers in Africa, building on our mission for gender equity in the male-dominated journalism and photography industries.
Cameras For Girls would select five former students in Uganda who have already completed the 4-phase program and train them over six months to build their self-confidence, photography skills (enhanced), leadership skills, and ability to speak coherently in front of a crowd. With photographers and trainers from our existing network, we can successfully roll this out starting in the first quarter of 2024 and running bi-annually from there.
Cameras For Girls can tap into the power of visual storytelling to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and drive positive change while building up women's voices who are traditionally kept out of the top positions because of societal and cultural biases across Africa. These women will become ambassadors of change, inspiring and mentoring their peers to embrace their creativity and challenge traditional norms while becoming partners and not just participants in the Cameras For Girls program.
