Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan, with the support of Global Giving Foundation, has been running "Mateshwari", a self-help group for last 18 months at village Surajkund in the holy place Pushkar, Ajmer. The story of Koki, a 55 years old member of the self-help group is inspiring for other women.
Koki's husband died 4 years ago, and after his death the family found themselves in deep trouble from everywhere. Koki has three daughters and all of them got married. After the death of his husband, she started doing labour at the old age for livelihood and to survive. At the time of establishing "Mateshwari" by Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan in the village, she also heard about it from other localites and then she also became a member of the self-help group. She started attending the monthly meetings of the self-help group regularly and her tendency to save money got developed more.
One year ago, Koki got help from Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan for micro-financing from bank of amounted Rs. 15,000/-. She started a self-employment unit to manufacture broom, cane, paint brush with the encouragment of the activists of the organisation. As she had already know to manufacture broom from cane, she started to manufacture them efficiently and sale them in market. As the family income increased gradualy, she also started a business of bangles. She buys bangles from nearby city at low rates and sells them in her village. Now she is making good profit from her business just because of her hardwork and she earns Rs. 500 to Rs. 600 per day and lives a better life. She is happy to work even at an old age.
She says, "It is the inspiration of Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan which encourages her to work". Koki thanks a lot to Global Giving Team and the donors for her success.
