Empowering Youth and Adults in The Bahamas

 Through funding from generous supporters, including GlobalGiving donors, ORG Bahamas continues to advance its mission to empower citizens—both youth and adults—to become informed, engaged participants in building a more transparent, resilient, and equitable Bahamas. Through civic education, access to information, and community-based engagement, our programs are creating pathways for Bahamians to understand how governance, environmental stewardship, and citizen participation intersect.

Civic Education and Community Empowerment: Be Clear Bahamas

One of the year’s highlights has been the ongoing success of Be Clear Bahamas, ORG’s civic education and budget transparency program. The initiative introduces students and community members to the national budget process, showing how government spending impacts daily life, the environment, and social services.
 This year, community groups of youth and adults from across several islands joined workshops and interactive sessions on how to read budgets, advocate for accountability, and connect public finances to local needs—laying the foundation for a generation of informed and empowered citizens.

Community Voice and Environmental Stewardship

ORG also continued its stakeholder engagement work in Family Island communities near Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), including Exuma, Long Island, Eleuthera, and Abaco. These consultations give residents, fishers, and local NPOs a voice in how marine conservation and coastal management decisions are made.
 Through focus groups, surveys, and partnerships with local environmental organizations, ORG ensures that conservation planning reflects community realities—strengthening both environmental protection and local trust in governance.

Democracy in Action: Pathway to the Polls

In anticipation of the next general election, ORG launched Pathway to the Polls, a voter education and civic engagement initiative aimed at promoting informed participation and fair access to the democratic process. The program provides citizens—especially youth and first-time voters—with clear, nonpartisan information about voting rights, electoral reforms, and the importance of civic responsibility.
 ORG also continues to advocate for modern, transparent election systems, including the careful introduction of new technologies that increase accessibility and voter confidence.

Promoting Access to Information

Transparency remains a cornerstone of ORG’s work. This year, ORG strengthened its public education efforts around the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and access to public data, helping citizens understand how the law can be used to promote accountability, environmental awareness, and better public services.
 Through workshops, social media campaigns, and stakeholder forums, ORG is helping bridge the gap between citizens and government—ensuring that access to information becomes a lived right, not just a policy on paper.

In a groundbreaking collaboration with the United Nations, ORG hosted the first-ever Youth SDG Partnership Forum in The Bahamas. This transformative event united young leaders, providing them with practical advocacy skills and a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals. These passionate youth are now better equipped to take the lead in advancing positive change in their communities.

Engaging Future Leaders at the University of The Bahamas
ORG delivered three impactful presentations to students at the University of The Bahamas, inspiring them with opportunities for self-determination. We explored topics such as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the power of civic engagement. Students were encouraged to partner with local non-profit organizations, amplifying their ability to drive meaningful change.

Advocacy Training for Civil Society and Industry Associations
