Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation

Kano Nigeria, where our project is located is still under a state of emergency as it is the only state in Nigeria with the highest rate of reported recorded deaths of under 5 years and pregnant women rising from 34% in 2023 to 49% as of the end of November 2024, (MOH Kano report, November 2024). This figure is separate from the unreported cases which could be higher than this.

The situation has been further exacerbated for the past 19 months as the poverty level has increased to a current ratio of 9 out of 15 persons surveyed in our 17 rural communities in Kano, where there is a paucity of funds to eat, to take of their health, to go to school which has led to the rise in domestic violence, vices such as criminality et al.

Since the start of our End Malaria for Children project in Nigeria, we have distributed over 5,000 Insecticide Treated Nets to 10,000 households in 17 communities of 7 local Governments in Kano, trained them on the importance of sleeping under ITNS, testing them for Malaria, early treatment, followed by distribution of first-line treatment drugs that has a combination of Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine as preventive medications.

Our interventions on Malaria have impacted the communities we have thus far had our projects but Kano state has a total of 44 local Government Councils. Each Local government has a minimum of 30 communities with some as high as 50 communities and populations spanning within the range of a minimum of 1000 persons (last census report 2006). These figures have changed and could be more but our country has not had any census since then to know the total number of citizens in her care.

We have not even scratched the surface of preventing malaria deaths of children and pregnant women in our rural communities but with the much we have done, we have saved the lives of 10,000 households all with your support since 2012. This coming year 2025 after our retreat we have come up with plans to doubling the current figure of our 2024 figure of 500.00 ITNS distributed during the period under review.
