Dear Friends, Family and supporters of Serendipity,

Malaria continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Kano Nigeria even though tremendous has been made by all stakeholders. Many Interventions have been made by the government, Roll Back Malaria project have been put in place but these has not translated into change in attitude and behavior unless a concerted and sustained behaiviour change strategy is in place.

Recognising the importance of behaiviour change communication in reducing the prevalence of malaria in our communities, we at Serendipity adopted a strategy that involves alternative first line treatments after confirmation of evidence of Malaria Parasites using a Rapid Diagnostic Test, provision of Insecticide Treated Nets, Home Management of Malaria, Distribution Of Fliers in both English and Hausa which is the local language showing how to prevent malaria, what to do when there is no doctor around, Radio Campaigns and Indoor Residual Spraying. This has worked for the communities we are present in as we have seen a significant improvement in their health.

And we are thrilled to share the progress of our Malaria Eradication Initiative, a project that has not only touched lives but also transformed communities in Kano State. Your generous contributions have been the cornerstone of our success, and it is with profound gratitude that we present this report.

Our initiative, which was launched in January 2016, aimed to tackle this challenge head-on. With a multifaceted approach encompassing prevention, treatment, and education, we have made significant strides in combating this disease and will not stop until we eradicate the prevalence of Malaria in our communities.

The distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets has been a game-changer, providing families with the protection needed to prevent malaria. Our educational and radio campaigns have empowered communities with the knowledge to take proactive measures against mosquito breeding. These efforts have culminated in a remarkable 75% reduction in malaria cases in the areas we serve.

Your donations have been judiciously utilized to maximize impact since the launch of our campaign. Here’s a brief financial overview:

  • Prevention: $4,000 allocated for mosquito nets and repellents.
  • Education: $2,000 invested in community outreach programs.
  • Treatment: $5,000 spent on medical supplies and Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits.

While we celebrate our achievements, we recognize the journey ahead. Our commitment to eradicating malaria remains steadfast, and we invite you to continue this noble journey with us. Together, we can achieve a malaria-free future for the people of Kano State.

We extend our heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support. Your contributions have not only saved lives but have also sown the seeds for a healthier, more prosperous community. We look forward to your continued partnership as we forge ahead in this vital mission.
