Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation

The rains have started and also with an increase in Malaria related cases. Our Malaria project in Kano is operating in a state of emergency, where the disease is a significant public health concern. Despite the state's efforts to distribute Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) in local government areas, reports indicate that the supply is insufficient to meet the needs of the target population. To address this gap, our project is focusing on hard-to-reach communities, prioritizing pregnant women and children under the age of five.

In our latest project intervention, we distributed ITNs to pregnant women and children under five in targeted communities. Additionally, we conducted malaria testing among this vulnerable group. Out of 30 individuals tested, 17 cases came out positive.

The state's distribution efforts are commendable, but the supply is not enough to cover all target populations.

The 17 positive cases out of 30 tested highlight the need for sustained interventions to control malaria in these communities.

Focusing on pregnant women and children under five is crucial, as they are disproportionately affected by malaria.

We will continue to distribute ITNs to vulnerable populations in hard-to-reach communities, and scale up malaria testing and treatment services to ensure that those infected receive prompt and effective care.

We will also engage with local communities to promote malaria prevention and control measures, including the use of ITNs and seeking prompt medical attention when symptoms arise.

Our Malaria project in Kano is making progress in addressing the disease burden in hard-to-reach communities. However, the high prevalence of malaria and insufficient ITN supply underscore the need for sustained efforts to control the disease. We will continue to work with the state government and other stakeholders to ensure that our interventions are effective and reach those who need them most.
