Kabiru can now sleep comfortably at night

Dear supporters and family of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

These past couple of weeks have been quite educative for us as an organisation as well as for the members of Madobi community where we want to reduce the incidence of malaria attacks. The last time we sent in our report to keep you updated on our project we were to train more women in batches as agreed; however when we went into the community the situation changed.

The first batch of women trained did so much of a great job cascading the information they recieved to other women in the community; it sparked rivalry from their husbands that they had so much information and were not willing to share with them as their husbands. It was unbelievable but as soon as we got into the community to train the next batch of women; the village head refused to allow the women we had picked out for the second batch of trainings instead insisted that we train their husbands.

We thus trained 20 men on the use of Insecticides Treated Nets and how to keep their surroundings clean, not leaving out stagnant water, coverage of all holes and water containers.Kabiru one of the trainees was very elated and had this to say "Now that I have this net over my bed, all my family will sleep comfortably at night without thinking of lighting and sleeping with a mosquito coil which I found out today was dangerous to my health because of the fumes".

The lessons we learned here is that when next we want to run a programme like this; we need to involve their husbands as they felt left out from the knowledge their wives received and as the tradition in the northern part of the country will want to claim ownership of everything, but we are happy on one thing though the children who are originally our target will get to sleep with their fathers under the nets.

We however need more support from you so that our next step which will be to distribute Insecticide Treated Nets to the children of Madobi would go far in our achieving another milestone in our project.
