Rolling back Malaria in our communities

Dear Supporters, Friends and Family of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

As part of our ongoing campaign to reduce the prevalence of malaria in our rural community in Madobi, Kano; we have been running several initiatives to raise funds to ensure that we continue helping our community in the best possible way.

With the rains that have commenced, cases of malaria in our rural communities have increased with a particular case of Asmau’s sister falling victim and losing her life in the process. This sad event devastated the family and made our organization intensify efforts to reduce malaria in our rural communities. The strategy we used for our intensified campaign was the re – distribution of Insected Treated Nets to the families we had previously given and also to ten additional new families. The total number of nets distributed thus far is over five hundred in three communities.

Malaria education was conducted amongst 100 women on the importance of sleeping under Insecticide Treated Nets, keeping the surroundings clean free from stagnant water especially this period of the rains was also an initiative we have taken to reduce deaths from complications of malaria in our communities.

Immediately after the summer break in September, we intend to take our campaign to the community schools where we would have a two weeks programme on malaria education to further stress on the importance of sleeping under Insecticide Treated Nets and keeping the environment clean.

We realize that so much more needs to be done to cover more communities and these are the followings ways to which we can reach out to these communities, one of which is your continued donations and support to distribute more Insecticide Treated Nets, create a rewards scheme for pregnant mothers to access quality healthcare and ITNs, residual indoor spraying and rapid diagnostic test kits to test community members.

Best Regards,

Nmatullah Umar
