The Gibson Soto Foundation works to break the poverty cycle by supporting young women from impoverished or marginalized communities in Mexico to complete university-level education and providing additional programs and developmental skills to have a sustainable, fulfilling life and rise above poverty. This project will give the gift of education to 10 more amazing women, allowing them to break down barriers of gender inequality, leave poverty behind, and achieve a new life beyond their dreams.
In Mexico, women face many obstacles to generate income and improve their living conditions due to gender inequalities, cultural norms, physical and emotional abuse, and lack of government support. School-aged women from marginalized communities have even more barriers to accessing education because of lack of financial means, early marriage, the burden of household chores, and unsafe traveling conditions. For many women, it will take eleven generations to break the cycle of poverty.
We have a unique program to support young women's positive growth by providing college education and developmental workshops. Because each student has a unique history, we assess their needs and chart an individualized course for the future they want to create. In addition to a college degree, students learn English, develop a community project, perform professional internships, and receive academic tutoring. All students reside in our facility and have access to 24/7 psychological counseling.
Women graduating from our program have an opportunity to live a life that once was a dream. Our women graduate with a college degree in engineering, psychology, nutrition, or any other profession of their choice. Importantly, they have new skills that provide them with the confidence and knowledge needed to start a professional career, begin their own business, overcome barriers, and have a sustainable, fulfilling life out of poverty. The Gibson Soto Foundation is dedicated to empowering women.
