Our Latest Update from the Field

By Anais Rivera | Development & Communications Manager

3 Generations has been committed to ending sex trafficking in the United States since 2013.

We have documented many stories of survivors. We form lasting relationships with our subjects and are committed to supporting them long after filming ends.

A short while ago, we got updates from two of the survivors we filmed. Danielle was one of our subjects in our feature film Tricked. We recently spoke to her and found that she is doing well and has just gotten a new job. She has been successful at rebuilding her life although she still sometimes has setbacks. Nik, the subject of our short film What About the Boys, is also doing well. He is a sex trafficking and LGBTQ activist.

Nik spoke to us about his work doing outreach with sex workers. He has been noticing an increase in trans sex workers. This is troubling news. According to the the US Transgender Survey conducted in 2015, 19 percent of all trans people, and 47 percent of black trans women, have engaged in sex work.Bias against trans people, especially trans women of color, severely limits access to housing and employment for them. Also many have been rejected by their families and therefore lack a good support system. Poverty and homelessness causes the need for survival sex. The percentage of trans sex workers has no doubt increased in the past year with the extra economic hardships that came with the pandemic.

We will keep you posted with more updates on this unsettling trend as we get some.

For more information about sex trafficking and all of our other work please visit our website, 3generations.org.

Today, July 14 is a Bonus Day at GlobalGiving please support us. Donations of $100 USD and up will be matched starting at 9 a.m. ET. The higher the amount, the higher the match, while funds last.
