Summary

According to UN reports, currently, Pakistan has the world's second-highest number of out-of-school children with an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school. In the 5-9 age group, 5 million children are not enrolled in schools and after primary-school age, the number of doubles, with 11.4 million adolescents between the ages of 10-14 not receiving formal education. The dropout ratio among girls is much more higher.

Challenge

Education is the backbone of every society and children are considered as human resource of the future development. In Pakistan, the findings of various research studies on dropout identify number of reasons which included, extreme poverty, distance to school, poor quality of education, non availability of physical facilities, non availability of female teachers in girls school etc. Despite , many serious actions taken by the Government, the child labour is Pakistan has swollen to 3.3 million.

Solution

AWARD will initiate a community program in Punjab Province Pakistan, where rural and semiurban communities (with major drop out ratio) will be sensitized about the importance of education, motivated to enroll their students to the nearest Govt. Schools which offers free education and will also be encouraged not to send the children to work. AWARD will bear the expenses of uniform, books and stationary wherever needed. The registered school drop out children will be enrolled to nearest schools.

Long-Term Impact

-Decrease in Child Labour in Pakistan -Improved Advocacy to motivate Government to stop child labour and increase enrollment of children on emergency basis. -Literacy rate improved in Punjab Pakistan -A step forward to achieve SDG' 4.
