Ensure food supplies help us build a Pantry

Summary

Victims of domestic abuse who are vulnerable, poor and reside in marginalized communities still cannot afford to provide food, shelter and basic utilities for themselves and their families. We provide a food bag every two weeks, however we do not have enough space to buy bulk and repackage. We are planning to build a pantry room to store all the goods necessary to help our community. To date, we have supported from January 2023 to March 2023, 169 households totaling 726 persons.

Challenge

The COVID-19 economic fallout has left vulnerable individuals, especially domestic abuse victims in marginalized communities, unable to afford basic necessities. We provide a food bag every two weeks, but cannot buy in bulk due to space constraints. To address this, we're building a pantry to buy and store food in larger quantities, ensuring we can always provide nourishment to those in need. With this, we'll stretch our resources further and help more families access the essentials they need to

Solution

The work would consists of the construction of a concrete frame commercial Storage unit 159.00 square feet. Building a pantry will allow the organization to buy and store food in larger quantities at a lower cost. This will enable them to provide more food to those in need with the same funding and ensure a consistent supply on-hand for distribution. This helps vulnerable individuals, particularly victims of domestic abuse, access basic necessities like food, shelter, and utilities.

Long-Term Impact

By increasing the organization's ability to purchase and store food in larger quantities, they can continue to provide critical support to vulnerable individuals in their community, including victims of domestic abuse. This may lead to improved overall health outcomes and greater stability for these individuals and their families. Additionally, the pantry may help strengthen the organization's capacity to respond to future crises, both within their local community and beyond.
