Summary

When Typhoon MEGI swept the Philippines in 2010, the city's poor region, Bagong-Silangan, was devastated. Parents who make a living by picking up trash don't want their children to live the same life. To help solve this, we opened a daycare center in 2012 with the youth here. However, everything is old, and parents can't afford to pay for expensive textbooks. This is the only daycare center in the village with cracked walls. Help children study in a safe environment and dream about the future!

Challenge

Following the UNICEF(2018) 'National Situation Analysis of Children in the Philippines', only 50% of children 3 to 4 years old are enrolled in day care, and only 78% complete basic education. Due to low investment over the past decade, outdated teaching methods, and limited attention to the development of children's social and emotional skills, Filipino children fallin behind. Bagong-Silangan center is tring to solve this problem. However, parents here do not have enough money to keep this.

Solution

- Step 1. Maintan the daycare center and improve the environment by replacing cracked walls, broken chairs, desks, and blackboards and covering the minimum cost to keep the center running. - Step 2. Purchase textbooks and provide quality education through various classes. - Step 3. Offer out-of-school educational opportunities, such as field trips, to help broaden the children's life experiences after graduation.

Long-Term Impact

To fulfill the right of 20 children to quality and inclusive lifelong learning. - To provide fair opportunities for 20 children and 260+ graduates to dream about their future by learning.
