Amani is dedicated to preventing family separation by removing barriers that necessitate residential care - including food insecurity. However, our arid region is prone to droughts and famines that make staples like corn, beans, and rice inaccessibly expensive. This project addresses the dual challenges of current and future food insecurity. We 1. provide families with livestock to develop stable income; and 2. invest in sustainable agriculture and energy to ensure financial stability.
Tanzania ranks 95/113 in food security, with a third of children under age five malnourished to the point of stunted growth. Many children lack reliable access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food; anemia and other nutrient deficiencies are common. Amani is working diligently to ensure that our community always has the food staples it needs. We do this by distributing livestock and investing in long-term projects that support food sovereignty and financial stability for families.
Amani is working towards family sustainability. This means Amani provides resources and education for families to feed and care for themselves. We distribute goats and chickens to program households and provide classes in animal husbandry and financial management. Animal offspring will be redistributed to new households to maintain project growth, developing a sustainable food system for our community. Follow-up visits will be conducted to determine animal health and general success.
The long-term success of our mission depends on developing sustainable sources of income and ensuring reliable access to food items. Our agricultural projects are a lifeline of healthy food, even during times of famine and adversity. Food insecurity is one of the leading causes of family separation. When we invest in family futures through our agricultural program, we generate income and sustainable food practices that not only keep families united, but keep them healthy.
