Seeds of Change Taking Root

By Dr Kate Thompson | Executive Director

Thanks to your support, Amani’s Livelihood Program (what we now call our food security work) is blossoming in our new office and outdoor location - quite literally! This quarter, our staff has begun planting the demor site where they will next year teach parents about home gardens, caring for chickens and goats, and learning practical skills that build both nutrition and income.

Two modern chicken hutches were completed and stocked with healthy flocks, allowing families to produce eggs and meat for sale. Our team also planted vegetable gardens with kale, spinach, and amaranth: nutritious staples that will supplement family diets and reduce dependency on market food prices.

Water remains a challenge in our area, but we’ve adapted creatively. One of our field assistants, Ezekiel, uses his tuk-tuk (nicknamed “the garden lifeline”) to deliver water daily for irrigation and animal care. With your support, we’re improving irrigation and shade structures so gardens can thrive even through dry seasons.

The Livelihood Program isn’t just about income; we feel it’s about restoring dignity. Each goat or chicken represents hope: a family with the tools to feed itself and send children to school.

Because of you, these seeds of change are growing into something extraordinary.
