Corn is a key staple food for the Amani center. It contributes to 80% of the Amani diet. Most of the corn produced in Tanzania is exported to Kenya and other parts of Africa. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease, Tanzania has seen a huge drop in its export to other countries, especially Kenya. This has led to a drop in the price of one bag of maize in the local market.
This marks the perfect time to buy more bags of corn for the next year. Once the exports resume, the price might go up and make it hard to acquire enough bags not only for this year but also for the next year. Amani is currently securing future food security by purchasing and storing staples on site. This ensures full plates and nourishing meals when they're needed most!
