Challenge

Across Africa 12 million youth each year struggle to find work that pays a living wage, yet only 3 million new jobs are created. In Natitingou, in northern Benin, lack of meaningful work and food insecurity present critical problems that create despair and potential violence from unemployed youth.

Solution

Practical training and mentorship at a professional skill level enable young Beninese to start their own businesses or find meaningful employment that pays a living wage. Bio-Benin provides three years of training at the highest level and guarantees employment for its students in restaurants across West Africa.

Long-Term Impact

Long-term, Bio-Benin is building the infrastructure to provide full-time employment for some 30 people and ongoing training for 30 more each year in culinary skills, craft beer brewing and organic farming. We also plan an organic fish-raising farm to help relieve food insecurity for hundreds more of the local population.
