Dear Donors,
We are pleased to present this progress report on “Her Future, Her Classroom,” an initiative addressing girls’ secondary education retention in rural Kabalwa.
At baseline, 42% of girls dropped out between Grades 8 and 10 due to inadequate sanitation, gender-biased teaching, and school-related gender-based violence.
Thanks to your support, results have exceeded targets. Girls’ monthly attendance rose from 68% to 89%. Dropout rates fell by 58%—surpassing our 40% goal. Math scores improved by 29 percentage points, and physics enrollment among girls tripled.
Key interventions included: private sanitary facilities, reusable pad distribution, teacher training in gender-responsive pedagogy, and weekly Girls’ Leadership Circles.
Critically, reported incidents of gender-based violence dropped by 67%, and 94% of participants now report feeling confident speaking in class.
Your investment proves that when a classroom is physically and socially adapted for girls, retention and achievement follow directly. We recommend expanding this model to 20 additional schools in Year 2.
We extend our deepest gratitude for making “Her Future, Her Classroom” a replicable success.
Respectfully submitted,
F SSIBU MISSION FOUNDATION-UGANDA
