Keep her in school

Through our Keep Her in School Program, we are introducing a sustainable initiative to produce reusable menstrual pads for girls who face challenges accessing adequate menstrual hygiene products. This initiative will help us reach more girls with durable, affordable, and environmentally friendly menstrual protection while making better use of available resources.

Many girls in underserved communities miss school during their menstrual periods because disposable sanitary pads are often too expensive or unavailable. By supporting the production and distribution of reusable pads, we can provide girls with a reliable solution that can be used repeatedly and maintained with proper hygiene.

The initiative will also create opportunities for girls and women to gain practical skills in sewing, pad production, hygiene management, and small-scale enterprise development. Where possible, we will involve community members in the production process, helping to strengthen local ownership and create additional livelihood opportunities.

For the Keep Her in School Program, this is more than providing menstrual products. It is about protecting girls' dignity, improving school attendance, building confidence, and reducing the financial burden on vulnerable families.

With donor support, we aim to provide reusable menstrual pad kits to more girls, conduct menstrual health and hygiene education, and ensure beneficiaries understand proper use, washing, drying, and safe storage.

Every reusable pad can serve a girl for an extended period, allowing one investment to create lasting impact. By minimizing recurring costs and reducing dependence on disposable products, this initiative will help us reach more girls sustainably.

Together, we can help girls stay in school, participate confidently, and continue pursuing their dreams without menstruation becoming a barrier to their education.

Thanks to your continued generosity, Keep Her in School has moved from concept into active development on the ground in the communities we serve, This update shares where the program stands and how your support is shaping the path forward for the adolescent girls it is designed to serve.

Over the past period, the organization has been finalizing the program's implementation framework  a four-phase approach built to respond to two overlapping realities facing girls in this region: those currently enrolled in school but at clear risk of dropping out, and those who have already left the classroom and need an alternative pathway toward skills and independence. Phase One focuses on identifying these girls and enrolling them with a proper baseline assessment, so that every intervention that follows is grounded in an accurate picture of each girl's circumstances, not assumptions.

What we want to highlight in this update is not just the plan itself, but the flexibility built into it. Because of your support, the Foundation is not locked into a single rigid intervention. As girls are identified and enrolled, the program is designed to adapt  offering scholastic materials and continued school support to those who can be kept in the classroom, while directing vocational training, mentorship, and eventual start-up grants toward those who need a different route back to opportunity. This adaptability is only possible because of donors who fund process, not just outcomes — who understand that real impact requires the ability to adjust course as new information comes in.

The program's monitoring framework reflects this same commitment. Baseline data collected at enrollment will be compared against results at the program's close, and findings will be shared openly with donors and partners through periodic impact reports. We believe accountability to you is inseparable from effectiveness for the girls we serve.

None of this progress  the planning, the framework, the flexibility to meet each girl where she is  would be possible without you. As Keep Her in School moves into its next phase, we will continue to share honest updates on what is working, what is being adjusted, and how your investment continues to open doors for girls in Mukono and Eastern Uganda who deserve a genuine second chance.
