In many communities across Mukono District and Eastern Uganda, a girl's path to school is often decided long before she ever sits at a desk. Deep-rooted beliefs still tell parents that a daughter's place is in the home, that early marriage is a safer investment than an education, or that school fees are better spent on a son. These beliefs, however well-intentioned, quietly push thousands of girls out of the classroom every year.
F Ssibu Mission Foundation's community mentorship program takes on this challenge directly — not by lecturing parents, but by walking alongside them. Trained mentors, many of them local women who have seen education transform their own lives, sit down with parents in their homes and villages. They share stories, answer fears honestly, and show — through real examples — what happens when a girl finishes school: better health for her future family, greater income potential, and a ripple effect that lifts the whole household out of poverty.
Sponsoring this mentorship work means funding the mentors' training, transport to remote villages, and the small community dialogues where change actually happens — often over a shared meal, a home visit, or a village meeting under a tree. It means giving parents the knowledge, encouragement, and community support to say yes to their daughter's education, even when tradition says otherwise.
The results speak for themselves: parents who once saw school as a cost begin to see it as an investment. Girls who might have been married off at fifteen stay enrolled, supported not just by the Foundation, but by parents who now believe in them.
Every sponsorship of this program is an investment not just in one girl, but in the mindset of an entire community — a mindset that will protect the next generation of daughters long after the program ends.
