Skills-Based Livelihood Training & Village Savings groups for care givers

By Naijuka aggie | Project leader

Foundation recognizes that keeping girls in school requires more than educational support alone. Many girls in rural communities face pressure to leave school because their families struggle to afford basic needs. By strengthening the economic capacity of girls and their caregivers, we are addressing one of the underlying causes of school dropout and creating stronger pathways for girls to remain in education.

Our Skills-Based Livelihood Training equips vulnerable girls and caregivers with practical skills such as tailoring, mat weaving, poultry rearing, agribusiness, soap making, hairdressing and other small-enterprise activities. These skills provide opportunities to generate income, build self-reliance and develop a positive vision for the future. For girls who are at risk of dropping out, vocational skills also provide hope and an alternative pathway toward economic independence while supporting their continued education.

We complement this training with women Village Savings  where guardians and caregivers form small savings groups, contribute some funds , access affordable loans to invest in productive activities like craft wavering, farming. This enables households to manage financial challenges, respond to emergencies and generate income without depending entirely on external assistance.

The impact is directly connected to our goal of keeping girls in school. When household finances become more stable, caregivers are better able to provide school fees, scholastic materials, menstrual hygiene supplies, food, clothing and other essential needs. This reduces the financial pressures that can push girls out of school and into early marriage, teenage pregnancy, child labour or other harmful circumstances.

Most importantly, the program is helping girls see themselves not as victims of poverty, but as young women with skills, choices and a future.

For every girl who remains in school, gains a skill and sees her family become more resilient, we are building a stronger future.

Investing in livelihoods is investing in girls’ education. Together, we can keep her in school today and help her become self-reliant tomorrow.
