we believe that empowering a girl doesn't end at getting her back into a classroom — it means equipping her with skills that open doors even when formal education isn't an option. That's why our approach to supporting school dropouts goes beyond retention efforts alone; it extends into practical, future-focused training that meets girls where they are.
For many girls in Mukono District who have dropped out of school due to early marriage, poverty, or family circumstances, digital literacy has become a powerful second pathway. Recognizing this gap, we set out to introduce basic computer training as a core part of our girl-centered programming, giving dropouts a tangible skill set they can carry into employment, entrepreneurship, or further learning.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have procured three computers to bring this vision to life. For many of the girls who will sit before them, this will be their first time ever touching a computer. What seems like a simple keyboard and screen to some represents an entirely new world of opportunity to them — the ability to type a document, navigate the internet, build a resume, or explore income opportunities that don't depend on a classroom seat they no longer occupy.
This milestone would not have been possible without donors who saw value in investing not just in school fees, but in second chances. Every contribution became a keystroke of opportunity for a girl who thought her learning days were over.
Now, we are appealing for something equally vital: volunteers skilled in digital literacy who are willing to give their time and expertise. We need individuals passionate about teaching — whether it's basic computer operation, typing, internet navigation, or introductory digital skills — to help us transform these three computers into a genuine gateway of empowerment.
