Community members are engaged on data collection
Kole Intellectual Forum has existed for about 10 years now and specifically for 8 years as a result of support from the platform of GlobalGiving.
Community Ownership is the core tool the organization is using, making it to be the nonprofit organization that has lasted for all these years; simply, because its team or its promoters have got committed to ensure that, on several occasions, they deeper their understanding and knowledge by getting data from the community they serve; and these have made them to:
- Increase investment and commitment: because community members own a project and they contribute their time, resources, and energy to ensure the organizational success and long-term viability
- work towards sustainability of the organization: by creating a sense of shared responsibility, which has led to more responsible resource management and a commitment to the project's continued success, with the hope of to continue running the organization after external support.
- Enhance accountability: by involving community in decision-making, community members are holding each other accountable for project outcomes, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration.

A poem of thanking Kole Intellectual Forum
Designed by Director George Obua (GlobalGiving 2026)
I knocked,
The door, it opened
Kole Intellectual Forum’s door
I smelled the perfume of joyness and happiness
I entered with a tear on my cheek
Which got wiped with a gentle touch
Of flowers’ leaves
Kole Intellectual Forum
I found the hope that abandoned me
I found my soul that was lost
In my home, Kole Intellectual Forum
My home, Kole Intellectual Forum,
Brought me back my delight
In Kole Intellectual Forum
I found the light,
That made the darkness I was in, go away
How many flowers I need
To thank you Kole Intellectual Forum
Thank you, Thank you, thank you Kole Intellectual Forum.

Community members being interviewed
Community research engagement meetings according to Kole Intellectual Forum are processes they used to involve community members in the research process, ensuring those research are relevant, ethical, and beneficial to the community. These meetings facilitate two-way communication, allowing KIFA team (researchers) to share information about their study, address concerns, and gather community perspectives on research priorities, design, and implementation. This collaborative approach according to the researchers aims to build trust, increase participation, and ultimately enhance the impact and sustainability of research outcomes.
Purposely, the meetings provide a platform to explain the research, its objectives, and potential benefits and risks to the community; allow researchers to understand community priorities, address concerns, and ensure the research aligns with community needs; and provide an open communication and collaboration foster trust between researchers and community members.
