Dear Global Givers,
As part of the 16 Days of Activism on Ending Gender Based Violence Against Women, Every8Minutes collaborated with Missing and 10 partner NGOs across India, to run the National Campaign on child trafficking from 25 November to 10 December 2015
Missing is a public art project started by Leena Kejriwal, a photographer and an installation artist. Missing works with local NGOs, students, artists and volunteers to create an everyday reminder of the missing girls.
Using art for activism, NGOs working on anti-child trafficking and education in eight cities across India painted silhouettes of young girls using the hashtag #Every8minutes and #missingirls in vulnerable areas. Street plays, drawing, painting and slogan writing competitions, discussion on child trafficking were some of the activities held during the campaign. We provided child helpline number 1098 and contact details of local NGOs working on child trafficking to local communities so that if they see any child in danger or a child has gone missing, they may immediately contact them and seek help.
The campaign provided a platform to reach out to local communities to spread awareness about child trafficking and how hundreds of girls and young women go missing everyday in India.
During a public rally held in Delhi, a woman approached us to help her find her 4 and half-year-old daughter, who has been missing for the past two weeks. Every8Minutes, along with our partner organisation took the details from the missing girl’s family and immediately filed a case at the local police station. We are determined to work harder and reach out to as many people as we can, especially in local communities where child trafficking is highly prone.
This is all made possible because you believe in our efforts to work towards ending child trafficking. India has the highest number of enslaved people in the world. We urge you to continue to lend your support and join hands with us to keep fighting till child trafficking ends in our lifetime.
With deep gratitude,
iPartner India Team
