Summary

Mental health disorders have a negative impact on the individual, society and global economy. The prevalence of mental disorders is increasing in young people, and if unaddressed, research has shown that they may develop into severe and chronic illnesses. Since 2012, SOHF has provided a holistic approach to help our youth overcome the scars of mental health and excel in life. We provide a nurturing environment with psychological and educational support. We're proud of our 100% development.

Challenge

At least one in five youth aged 9-17 years currently has a diagnosable mental health disorder that causes some degree of impairment; one in 10 has a disorder that causes significant impairment. The most common mental illnesses in adolescents are anxiety, mood, and behavior disorders. We tried to fill this gap by providing psychological and educational support. However, it is challenging to guarantee that all youths become graduates, especially with the rising cost of materials, tuition, transport.

Solution

Our youth are raised in a family structure in houses with about 15 members, along with a couple who serve as their mentors. From nutritionists to psychologists, we offer an integrative approach to healing, educating, motivating, and building resilience, confidence, and independence. We also have a team devoted to providing the necessary tools to improve academic levels, learn life skills, and guide the process of career counseling in order to accompany the kids in building their life projects.

Long-Term Impact

Through education and mental health support, this project nurtures self-confident, independent, and productive individuals. By breaking the cycle of abuse and poverty, Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation is empowering new generations of youth to achieve their dreams of owning their own homes, building happy families, and creating their own satisfying life projects. This will certainly contribute to the social development of Southeast, Nigeria by creating a more fair and educated society.
