Mental health remains a pressing public health issue in Southeast Nigeria, often overshadowed by stigma, cultural misconceptions, and under-resourced systems. The Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF) remains unwavering in its mission to champion mental health awareness, education, and systemic change despite the absence of external funding. This quarter marked a significant stride in our journey, especially with the birth of a strategic partnership with Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar, which is poised to reshape how we deliver mental health advocacy through digital and community-driven platforms.

Key Achievements and Activities

1. Community Sensitization and Engagement

Continued informal outreach through meetings with community leaders, religious bodies, and youth groups.

Initiated preparatory steps to establish community-based mental health forums to facilitate open dialogue and peer support.

2. Strategic Partnerships and Collaboration

On July 20, 2025, SOHF formalized a partnership with Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar, a multilingual AI solution that will serve as an intelligent, interactive mental health education and engagement tool across our digital and physical outreach activities.

Ongoing consultations with mental health professionals and institutions to co-develop community-centric outreach models.

Preliminary talks with universities to integrate mental health education into their civic engagement programs.

3. Digital Advocacy and AI Integration

Continued use of social media to disseminate educational content on stress management, mental wellness, and stigma reduction.

Plans are underway to embed the Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar in future campaigns—making mental health resources more accessible in local dialects, thus removing language barriers and boosting engagement.

Laid groundwork for upcoming virtual webinars featuring mental health professionals and lived-experience advocates.

4. Policy Advocacy and Legislative Engagement

Developed a preliminary advocacy paper geared toward state-level legislators, proposing the integration of mental health into the regional public health framework.

Mapping of key stakeholders and institutions for targeted lobbying in Q4.
Challenges Encountered

Financial Constraints: Our operations continue without dedicated funding, limiting our capacity to scale.

Cultural Barriers: Deep-rooted myths and stigma surrounding mental health impede community-level acceptance and participation.

Digital Divide: Reaching rural populations with online campaigns remains a challenge, especially for non-internet users.

Opportunities and Strategic Leverage

AI-Driven Engagement: The integration of Isidore CompetitivAI opens unprecedented opportunities for multilingual, voice-powered mental health education tailored to the unique realities of Southeast Nigeria.

Growing Youth Interest: Increased engagement from student groups and young professionals presents a strong base for peer-driven awareness efforts.

Potential Grant Applications: We are identifying aligned donors and CSR opportunities for proposal submission in the coming quarter.

Next Steps and Outlook

Finalize deployment plan for the Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar in local mental health forums and schools.

Expand advocacy to include mental health training for educators, faith leaders, and healthcare workers.

Organize the first AI-powered community mental health dialogue session by Q4.

Intensify fundraising efforts through grant writing and crowdfunding initiatives.

Conclusion

Though underfunded, the Advocacy for Mental Health Awareness in Southeast Nigeria project is growing stronger through innovation, partnerships, and grassroots engagement. With the introduction of the Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar, we are reimagining mental health education in a culturally relevant, tech-powered way. We remain committed to dismantling stigma, fostering empathy, and advocating for inclusive mental healthcare for all.

We call upon partners, donors, institutions, and stakeholders to join us in this transformative journey toward a mentally healthier Southeast Nigeria.
