Fifteen Years, Quinceaneras!

By Guadalupe Velazquez | Operation Coordinator

Within the Mexican culture, turning 15 years old is a very significant moment for all young girls because it symbolizes the transition from being a girl to becoming a woman. The Mexican version of Sweet 16 in the US is the "Quinceañera", where all newly arrived 15 year olds are introduced into society. In the past two months, two of Puerta Abierta's girls turned 15.
Puerta Abierta family is currently planning a party for our "quinceañeras"  and will enjoy watching them with their friends celebrate and have fun in this is once-in-a-life-time experience. However this symbolic celebration doesn't mean both of these 15 year old girls don't need you, they need your donations to keep up with their academic education in order to become independent and self sufficient.
According to Mexico's law, in 3 more years at 18 they will be considered legal adults nevertheless they are not ready to be out by themselves in the world and the Puerta Abierta family aimes to provide them a chance to be part of this family until the day they can go out in the world and fend for themselves. Thanks to your ongoing donations these girls will continue making their best effort with the opportunities you are giving them.
Thank you for allowing them to have a second chance !
