Dear donors,
We are here to tell you about how things have been going for our Innovation Hub in Vidigal. As this is the first progress report for this project, we will introduce you to what we do there and to whom the space is most useful.
The Hub serves as headquarters for all of Favela Inc’s operations. Also, it provides other entrepreneurs, organizations, and social projects with access to a professional structure to organize events, meetings, and do any work-related activities. The profile of the Innovation Hub’s beneficiaries is mostly local entrepreneurs starting new projects, as well as leaders from already existing NGOs and projects that don’t have their own space yet.
There, we carry out the meetings about all projects and departments of Favela Inc. Teams from local businesses, organizations, projects and collectives from the community also have their meetings at the workspace. Monthly, the Vidigal Vive Collective has its meeting there. Additionally, there are also courses, workshops, and events that frequently take place at the Innovation Hub.
Due to the pandemic, we are limiting the people allowed in the space at the same time to minimize the spread of COVID-19, and we haven’t been able to host all the events we wanted to. Everyone has to wear a mask, and we provide masks to those who may not have one. We disinfect the space daily, and hand sanitizer is available there as well. We are currently looking at technological investments that allow us to conduct hybrid activities, which can happen in the Hub and remotely at the same time.
At the moment, English classes are happening there, and we are going to start offering courses in various areas of entrepreneurship in October. The Agrofavela course, which recently concluded its first class, also happened at the Hub and promoted a significant impact on the habits of residents who participated - we are conducting an evaluation on the pilot course to offer it again soon! Usually, we have many events, such as visits from university groups and tourists getting to know the favela, project launches, and also lectures from experienced professionals in relevant areas of knowledge to the users of our space.

We have been able to fund all expenses related to the Hub thanks to the support we receive from our donors, and we cannot express our gratitude enough! The Innovation Hub is the core of all of Favela Inc’s activities, and we are able to accomplish everything we do by collaborating on that space. Despite unfortunately not being able to have our much loved events at the time, having that workspace for our team, local entrepreneurs, and other social projects is of huge importance for every individual that benefits from it.
