The Irreplaceable Ingredient.
By Brenda Kaloki | Field Worker
Lunch time is fun time at Fountain of Hope.
Happy New Year!
It’s a new school year at Fountain of Hope Primary School and the children are super excited to progress to new classes and learn new and exciting things. This year we add one more class, class 7 (just one more class from being a full primary!!!) and as we celebrate this milestone we cannot fail to celebrate you, our partner.
In 2016, we served 44,700 meals to 121 children and this year we look forward to serving up more meals to more deserving children. The number of children benefitting from the feeding program has risen every year and we are yet to fail to provide breakfast and lunch for every child throughout the school year and your generous giving has played a big role in our success.
We are grateful for your continuous support, your partnership is an irreplaceable ingredient to the growth of the children we serve and our success.
We look forward to walking with you in this new, exciting year.
Thank You!

A Simple Formula
By Emily Obiti | Field Worker
Daily meals = Good school attendance = Rising grades and improved learning outcomes
Its a simple formula, but it really works.
We have just completed another school year at the Fountains of Hope Primary School in Kibera. At our end-of-year parents meeting, our teachers were proud to announce a rise in average grades in every single class this year.
This is due to the children's hard work, our excellent teaching team and our improved facilities and resources. But the other vital ingedient is food. A hungry child can't concentrate and hunger is a frequent experience for the children in our school. So, with your help, we provide food every school day. Its an investment both in the children's health and their education.
Thank you for supporting us this year to provide this free feeding programme. We would like to invite you to consider giving regularly to this programme. Our school is growing and we aim to feed more children every year but to do this we need your partnership.
Thank you

Mama Millie and Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace and Mama Millie have been cooking meals or Turning Point kids for over 10 years. They get to work in the early hours of the morning to roll out and fry the morning mandazi. Then they move on to preparations for lunch. Sorting maize and beans, chopping vegetables, slicing meat. Most of the meals take hours to cook in our huge cooking pots. The most back-breaking meal to prepare is Sukuma and ugali - fried kale with a kind of maizemeal cake.
Ugali is made by stiring maize flour into boiling water. First it becomes sticky, then gradually becomes more and more solid and more difficult to stir. Mama Millie and Grace literally use a huge stiring stick that looks like an oar to row a boat!
The kitchen at Turning Point is always full of delicious smells and the sound of Mama Millie and Grace singing and laughing as they work. They know that their work is so important to the children we serve and they do it joyfully.
We wanted to celebrate Mama Millie and Grace's great work in this report and thank you for your support to our amazing cooks.
