A meal makes a difference

Dear friend,

Thank you for your gift to feed hungry school children in India. Your gift provides a starving child living in poverty with a healthy meal. You helped to feed 118 children with a school meal.

Many children in the villages come from poor families, and their parents are unable to feed them or send them to school. The children often work in the fields to earn some money instead of attending classes.

But your gift feeds children like Kumar and gives them an opportunity to receive a great education!

Kumar lives in a fishing village. Frequently his father is away on the sea, with a few other men they spend a few days out at sea working hard to catch what they can sell in the local market. To supplement their income his mother works in the field planting and harvesting rice. Along with his younger sister Kumar usually accompanies his mother, even though he is only six he is expected to help in some manner. Cleaning up the chaff at harvest or carrying seedlings at the time of planting, because he works he eats. There is no food for those who do not work. His parents cannot afford to send him to school as not only are there fees but he also must eat, there is no food for those who do not work.

Recently one of the teachers from our school were visiting families in their area and spoke with his mother. When she learned that not only could Kumar get an education at the school but that they were also providing a mid-day meal she was very excited. Though she is illiterate she fully understands the value of education and wants Kumar to have an opportunity to escape the poverty that enslaves them to a life of hardship and want. Kumar has started attending and eats heartily at lunchtime. He normally comes to school without any breakfast so he joyfully fills his stomach every time at lunch.

From street begger to school girl

Thanks for feeding hungry children

Thank you for your gift to feed hungry school children in India. Your gift provides a starving child living in poverty with a healhy meal. Most recently, 118 school children received a nutritious mid-day meal at school every day.

According to UNICEF, one-third of the world's malnourished children lives in India. Having no food limits a child's development and capacity to learn.

But your gift feeds children like Satyavathi and gives them an opportunity to receive a great education!

Satyavathi is in the 8^th grade and she is 13 years old. Her mother died when she was just a baby, so her father remarried a woman who became her stepmother. Satyavathi’s stepmother didn’t treat her well and only cared for her own son. As a result, Satyavathi was not getting fed regularly. She was severely malnourished, and her stepmother made her beg for food on the streets. She was also forced to work in the house and wasn’t allowed to go to school.

One day, someone in her community told her that she could receive a nutritious meal every day if she went to school. Satyavathi was excited about this opportunity. Because she was able to get a free lunch at school, she was no longer forced to beg for food. Satyavathi is eating at least one meal a day and going to school.

A daily meal helps two sisters go to school

Thank you for feeding poor school children

Thank you for your gift to feed hungry school children in India. Your gift is having a significant impact on a child living in poverty who wouldn't be able to afford a good meal or even go to school. Last quarter, 200 school children at three different schools in Andhra Pradesh received a healthy lunch every day.

According to UNICEF, one-third of the world's malnourished children lives in India. Having no food limits a child's development and capacity to learn.

Many children in the villages come from poor families, and their parents are unable to feed them or send them to school. Because of you, children are not only able to eat a healthy school meal but they also receive a valuable education. You are equipping children with one of the most powerful tools to overcome poverty!

Ramya and Ramana are two sisters who have benefited from your gift. They were left by their parents at a young age and had to live with their sick grandma. They couldn't go to school because they had to work so they could support their grandma and have something to eat. They went house-to-house looking for menial jobs, so they could earn enough money to buy food. They felt sad and jealous of the other kids their age who went to school.

When the girls learned they would receive a free lunch at school every day they were so happy. Instead of working for scraps of food, they could go to school, get an education, and enjoy a satisfying and nutritious meal. Going to school changed their lives forever. Ramya and Ramana are excited they get to study, learn, play and eat a good meal every day. Their dream is to finish their education and get a good job.
