Emergency Food Support in North Kivu

By VERITE | CORDINATOR

1. Background and Rationale

The humanitarian situation in North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, remains extremely critical. Ongoing armed conflicts, combined with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, have led to massive population displacements, pushing already vulnerable communities into even more precarious conditions.

In displacement camps, living conditions are extremely harsh and marked by severe food insecurity. Testimonies like that of Mama Aisha, a displaced widow raising her five children alone, illustrate the gravity of the crisis. For many families, even one meal a day is uncertain. Women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities are among the most affected, with malnutrition rates exceeding 80% in some areas.

2. Project Objective

This project aims to provide an immediate response to the food crisis by delivering emergency nutritional assistance to 300 vulnerable families, with an initial phase targeting 240 priority households.

The main objectives are:

  • Reduce hunger and acute malnutrition
  • Support displaced families in critical situations
  • Strengthen community resilience

3. Description of Activities

The project will distribute emergency food packages of approximately 80 kg per family, including essential staple products such as:

  • Beans
  • Maize
  • Cooking oil

Distributions will be carried out with the support of local community leaders to ensure transparent and fair selection of beneficiaries, with priority given to:

  • Orphans
  • The elderly
  • People living with disabilities
  • The most vulnerable households

At the same time, a preparatory phase is underway, including the identification of trainers and beneficiaries to ensure effective implementation starting in November 2025.

4. Expected Results

  • 300 families receive direct food assistance
  • Immediate improvement in the nutritional status of children and mothers
  • Reduction in the risk of diseases related to malnutrition
  • Strengthened dignity and renewed hope within communities

Access to food not only saves lives but also lays the foundation for long-term recovery.

5. Project Budget

The total project budget amounts to USD 10,000.

To date, thanks to collaboration with GlobalGiving, an initial donation of 1 US dollar has been received. Although symbolic, this first contribution marks the beginning of a powerful wave of solidarity.

6. Partnerships and Mobilization

The partnership with GlobalGiving plays a crucial role in increasing the project’s visibility and mobilizing resources. It enables us to reach an international audience and strengthen the credibility of our initiative.

We are confident that through this collaboration and collective effort, the funding goal will be achieved.

7. Monitoring and Transparency

A rigorous monitoring system will be put in place to:

  • Ensure proper distribution of aid
  • Guarantee transparency in the use of funds
  • Assess the project’s impact on beneficiaries

Regular updates will be shared with donors to maintain trust and transparency.

8. Call for Support

Now more than ever, we make a sincere appeal to all people of goodwill.

Every contribution counts.

  • $30 can feed a family for one week
  • $50 can provide meals for two weeks
  • $300 can support 10 families

Behind every donation, there is a child who eats, a mother who finds comfort, and a family that regains hope.

9. Acknowledgments

We sincerely thank everyone who has already contributed, no matter how modest their support. This first gesture carries hope and marks the beginning of a chain of solidarity.

We also express our gratitude to our partners, especially GlobalGiving, for their support and commitment.

Conclusion

This project is much more than simple food aid: it is a human response to very real suffering. Together, we can transform hunger into hope and despair into dignity.

We invite you to join this movement of solidarity.
Because no family should go to bed hungry.
