Thousands of children and families in Benue State, Nigeria, have been forced to flee their homes because of recurring violent clashes between farmers and herders. Living in overcrowded Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps around Makurdi, many families have lost everything-their homes, farms, livelihoods, and sources of income. Children are going to bed hungry, suffering from malnutrition, missing school, and facing increased risks of disease, exploitation, and trauma.
Women and children bear the greatest burden of this crisis. Many have witnessed violence, lost family members, and have been forced to abandon their education. The United Nations warns that 35 million Nigerians could face acute hunger between June and August 2026, while 6.4 million children risk severe malnutrition. For many families, one meal a day is all they can manage. Children are leaving school, and desperate households are forced to sell their few remaining possessions just to survive.
This project will provide immediate humanitarian assistance while helping displaced families begin the journey toward recovery and self-reliance. GoGreen will provide monthly food assistance to 4000 people in the Makurdi IDP camp, Support children with nutrition services, distribute essential relief items including blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene kits, soap, water containers, and dignity kits for women and girls. Improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation, to reduce spread of disease.
This project will provide lifesaving support to thousands of displaced children and families while strengthening their ability to recover from conflict and rebuild their futures. Over time, the project will improve food security and nutritional outcomes among vulnerable households, reduce hunger, malnutrition, and preventable illnesses among children, improve access to clean water, sanitation, and essential household supplies, enhance the safety, dignity, and protection of women, and girls
