The humanitarian crisis in Benue State continues to deepen as thousands of families displaced by recurring farmer-herder violence struggle to survive in overcrowded Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Women and children remain the hardest hit, facing hunger, disease, interrupted education, and an uncertain future.
GoGreen is supporting over 4,000 people in the Makurdi IDP camp with food and household items, providing relief from post-conflict trauma.
Project preparations are underway, including coordination with camp authorities, community leaders, humanitarian partners, and local health facilities to ensure assistance reaches the most vulnerable households. The intervention will deliver monthly food assistance, nutrition support for children, essential non-food relief items, safe water, sanitation services, hygiene promotion, and dignity kits for women and girls.
The need has never been greater. According to the United Nations, 35 million Nigerians are projected to face acute food insecurity during the June–August 2026 lean season, while more than 6.4 million children under five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition, including over 1.8 million at risk of severe acute malnutrition requiring urgent treatment. Meanwhile, Benue State continues to experience large-scale displacement as violence forces families from their homes and farms.
This project will save lives today and help restore dignity, improve children's health and nutrition, reduce disease outbreaks through improved water and sanitation, and lay the foundation for long-term recovery and resilience among displaced families.
With the support of compassionate donors, families who have lost nearly everything can restore their hope.
