Feed Displaced Families in Benue, Nigeria

Some days stay with you forever. For our GoGreen team, one such day came during a recent food distribution at the Makurdi IDP camp. Long before we arrived, families had already gathered, patiently waiting with bowls, bags, and quiet hope. Mothers held babies close. Elderly men leaned on walking sticks. Children stood beside their parents, watching every movement as our volunteers unloaded bags of food and relief supplies. As the distribution continued, we looked toward the end of the queue. It was still growing.

One of our volunteers quietly counted the remaining food packages and looked at the team. "We need to be careful," he whispered. "We're almost out." For a moment, time seemed to stand still. Every person in that line had a story. Some had fled their homes only days earlier. Others had been living in the camp for months, waiting for the opportunity to rebuild their lives. None of them had chosen to be there. We continued distributing every available package as fairly as possible, praying the supplies would stretch just a little further.

That day reminded us of a painful truth: the humanitarian need in Benue is greater than any one organization can meet alone. According to the World Food Programme, Nigeria is facing one of its most severe food security crises recently, with nearly 35 million people projected to experience acute food insecurity in 2026. At the same time, humanitarian agencies continue to face significant funding gaps, making it increasingly difficult to reach every family in need.

Despite these challenges, GoGreen remains committed to showing up. Thanks to the generosity of compassionate supporters, we have continued providing emergency food assistance and essential relief materials to displaced families in the Makurdi IDP camps. Every distribution represents more than food—it is a message that vulnerable families have not been forgotten.

But we cannot ignore the reality before us. Every new family arriving at the camp means another child to feed, another mother seeking hope, and another elderly person needing care. As we packed up that evening, one little boy waved at our vehicle and shouted, "Thank you for coming back." Those four words remind us why we keep going.
