Our field teams continue to visit communities and displacement camps around Makurdi where thousands of families have sought refuge.
The stories are painfully similar.
Many families arrived with no food, no bedding, no cooking utensils, and no clean water. Children show visible signs of hunger after surviving for days on very little food. Mothers repeatedly tell us they skip meals so their children can eat first.
Many children are becoming increasingly vulnerable to illness because of poor nutrition, overcrowded living conditions, unsafe drinking water, and inadequate sanitation facilities.
Women and girls face additional hardships. Privacy is almost nonexistent. Basic hygiene supplies are often unavailable. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and adolescent girls are among those with the greatest unmet needs.
For families who once lived with dignity, the emotional toll is immense. They are not simply mourning the loss of possessions. They are grieving the loss of security, livelihoods, education, community, and the future they had envisioned for their children.
Your support is helping us provide support to these families in dire need. Thank you for standing with us.
