Project Report – Feed Families in War-Torn Lebanon

January – July 2026

Every morning, before the sun is fully up, a queue forms outside EQUAL NGO's soup kitchen in Lebanon. Elderly men and women who have nowhere else to go. Mothers with children who ate nothing the night before. Families who fled the south with whatever they could carry — and left everything else behind.

They come because here, at least, there will be food.

Thanks to you, there always is.

What is happening in Lebanon right now

Lebanon was already on its knees before 2026. Years of economic collapse had wiped out savings, destroyed livelihoods, and pushed the currency into freefall. Then, in early March, a new escalation of violence shattered the fragile calm that had followed the November 2024 ceasefire. The gains in food security that had been so painfully built over months vanished in weeks.

The numbers from April 2026 are staggering. According to FAO and the World Food Programme, 1.24 million people — nearly one in four Lebanese — are now facing acute food insecurity, classified as crisis or worse. More than one million people remain displaced, unable to return to their homes, their fields, their lives. Food prices are surging: fuel jumped over 80% in a single month, and everything that needs to be transported — which is everything — costs more. Farmers cannot reach their land. Markets are disrupted. The spring planting season is closing without seeds going into the ground.

What that means, in human terms, is simple: more people going hungry. More mothers skipping meals. More children growing up in a country that cannot feed them.

What your support is doing

In the middle of this, COOPERA and EQUAL NGO are showing up — every single day.

From our soup kitchens and community distribution points, we are reaching more than 2,000 people who depend on us not as a last resort, but as their only option.

And in the first months of 2026, we did something that took months of logistics, coordination, and sheer determination: we loaded a 40-foot container in Spain and shipped it to Beirut — 40 tonnes of food, wheelchairs, and diapers. Forty tonnes. The weight of everything a community needs when it has nothing left.

Food for families who have not been able to buy groceries in weeks. Wheelchairs for people with disabilities who were displaced and left their equipment behind. Diapers for babies born into a country at war — because dignity does not stop being important when everything else collapses.

When that container arrived at the port of Beirut and EQUAL NGO's team began unloading it, people were waiting. They had been waiting for a long time.

One grandmother who comes to the kitchen every day told our team: "I spent my whole life feeding others. I never imagined I would be the one in the queue." She said it without shame — because we made sure she never had to feel it.

What comes next

The WFP estimates that Lebanon will need $112 million in food assistance between May and August 2026 alone. We cannot match that. But we can be present in the places where the big organisations are not — in the neighbourhoods, the kitchens, the doorsteps.

As long as the need exists, COOPERA and EQUAL NGO will be there.
