In Benin and especially in schools in remote villages, the majority of school children come from poor families who are unable to provide a varied diet. It is very common to meet children who barely eat twice a day. These hungry children are unable to follow the teachers' lessons well. This project will help the NGO ITODJU to provide the DOURBE school with a school canteen in order to cook and offer a varied and balanced meal every day to each of the 200 children aged 6 to 14.

By offering a varied and balanced meal to each child every day, schools can have a positive impact on the health of our children. But they need help to make systemic changes. The NGO ITODJU provides the support that the village school in DOURBE needs through resources such as cooking equipment and gardening equipment that help them switch to gardening activities to support the school canteen. We also support hand hygiene activities that help children take steps to prevent diarrheal disease.
Well-nourished children have more energy, are able to concentrate during lessons and are more capable of learning than those who are hungry, empty. The eating habits that children develop early in life will affect their diet - and their health - as adults. By changing the way children eat - and think about - food, we are helping to create a future generation of informed consumers and parents whose food choices will support sustainable, healthy and ecological food systems.
