Most of us know someone who abuses alcohol or drugs. Each year, 3.3 million people die due to alcohol-related harm and millions of children around the world suffer because of their parent's abuse. They face social exclusion, shame and are 10 times more likely to become addicts themselves. Help the International Blue Cross this holiday season reduce harm to others and give these children a Christmas of joy and hope to remember. Join us for "Fill the Cross - United Against Addiction!"
Alcohol consumption is one of the world's largest risk factors for disease, disability and premature mortality. Most everyone has a friend, family member or loved one affected by addiction. The harmful use of alcohol kills more people each year than HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis combined. The International Blue Cross' projects in prevention keep youth drug and alcohol-free and provide treatment & counselling to people in more than 40 countries around the world.
We work with local partners to reduce harm to others caused by the misuse of alcohol and drugs. Even if you can't be with us in Bern, Switzerland on the 20th of December to light a candle on behalf of someone harmed by addiction and "Fill the Cross", you can still help! Our holiday campaign will bring attention to the wide-spread issue of alcohol-related harm and raise funds to support projects of the Blue Cross around the world.
The International Blue Cross provides professional treatment services to people in 43 countries. The long-term impact of preventing substance abuse among youth mitigates the negative economic, health and social consequences on society. Teaching the ability to make informed decisions empowers youth to be strong leaders and role models within their community. Treatment and counselling helps people overcome addiction and allows for re-integration into society, making people employable again.
