Many plus-size women avoid fitness spaces due to body shaming, teasing, or lack of acceptance. This project will create a safe, friendly fitness program for 100 women in Abuja. It includes guided group sessions, supportive coaching, basic fitness gear, and mental wellness talks. Donations will help rent space, pay trainers, and provide materials. The goal is to build confidence and improve health in a safe setting.
Plus-size women in Nigeria often face teasing or judgment in public fitness spaces, making them feel unwelcome. Many do not join exercise groups out of fear of embarrassment or negative comments. As a result, they miss the health and social benefits of regular movement. Without support, this group is left out of public fitness programs and faces increasing health risks.
This project will run a private, body-safe fitness program just for plus-size women. It will provide group classes, simple equipment, and trainers trained to be respectful and encouraging. Women will also join small group talks to build confidence and support each other. By removing shame and offering a calm space, this program helps women move without fear of judgment.
Women who join this program can continue basic fitness routines at home or with friends. The positive experience may inspire others and shift public views about fitness and body size. Subsequently, this model could be shared in other communities and included in local health projects. It can also reduce the isolation and stress linked to body shaming, creating safer public spaces.
