Summary

Katalemwa seeks to provide relief food to 500 families of children with disabilities whose caregivers are unable to work during this COVID - 19 lock-down. As businesses closed, many families are burdened to meet essential items like food, Most especially those in Urban center who survive on hand to mouth incomes.

Challenge

Approximately 80% of Uganda's population is not working due to the lock-down measures that were set by the government as a response to the Global COVID -19 pandemic. Some families either have one meal a day or even go hungry because there is no income to meet nutritional needs. Families of children with disabilities have been greatly affected with the lock-down because before, they have been living in poverty and this pandemic has worsened their vulnerability.

Solution

Katalemwa plans to purchase and distribute food packages to support 500 families of children with disabilities living in urban areas of Kampala and Wakiso district respectively. This support will relieve on the burden of caregivers to meet costs of purchasing food and prevent families from living in hunger.

Long-Term Impact

This food relief will improve on the health and well being of families of children with disabilities during this lock down and reduce nutritional deficiency challenges associated with hunger.
