Our proposal is to develop ISUYAS, the Arhuaco word for weave, we will assist dialogue spaces, where a group of women around the kitchens, will seek, by sharing, to heal and strengthen the social fabric. The expected result is the empowerment and resignification of women's role in the community. Once this social fabric is achieved, they will strengthen their knowledge in farming, food preparations, and we will provide assistance to achieve an impact on consumption of varied and nutritious food.
In Colombia 54% of families suffer food insecurity (ENSIN 2015), this means that more than half of them do not have 3 meals each day, neither complete and balanced food for their health. This problem is even higher in indigenous and rural communities. The Arhuaco community is one of the 105, or more, ethnic groups in Colombia. It is a community with agricultural dedication; paradoxically, it suffers from a severe problem of food insecurity, which has caused 7 out of 10 people face malnutrition.
Soydoy has more than 9 years of experience working with this community and today our approach is focused in recognizing women as a fundamental agent of change. Due to the fact that she is the caretaker of the children, the one who feeds the family and occupies several hours each day in the kitchen. Despite this, the caregiver role has not been recognized nor value.
This is a disruptive and innovative proposal, we hope to reach 100 women in the first year of the project. We will focus on the sustainability and replicability of the model on the indigenous women themselves. After their empowerment process, they will be able to replicate the ISUYAS, dialogue spaces, with other women, in various Arhuaco communities.
