Summary

The YUM Organic Farm is a social enterprise that grows and sells organic vegetables in West Java, Indonesia. The farm is also a learning facility for young farmers to learn about organic farming practices. Since the pandemic, our farm has been providing vegetables to pregnant mothers and elderly to ensure food security and good health. This project's purpose is to help maintain and scale up the farm's impact so it may continue to serve young farmers, pregnant mothers and the elderly.

Challenge

Although we survived the challenges faced in 2020, the pandemic continues to affect many social enterprises badly and our farm is no exception. Unable to run our education programs due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have experienced a decrease in income and are unlikely to recover any time soon. Set out to be an income generating project to help fund services to beneficiaries including pregnant mothers and the elderly, the farm is in danger of having to shut down due to the many challenges faced.

Solution

In order to stay competitive and achieve our goal of financial sustainability, the farm needs funding to improve our operations and production, as well as to create a management team. Organic certification will guarantee that our produce can be sold to a larger audience, and new greenhouses will improve the quality of our crops. By growing the farm, we are ensuring stable income to local farmers who work with us, and continuing our support to vulnerable communities in Cipanas, West Java.

Long-Term Impact

With the growth of the organic farm and a stable income every month, profits from the farm will go to support 1) pregnant mothers in 11 villages to ensure they deliver healthy babies and prevent stunting, 2) poor elderly in the surrounding villages who need good nutrition and 3) the training of young farmers in organic farming methods. By making sure the farm survives, you are ensuring the continuation of its social impact, which can reach close to 300 beneficiaries every year.
