Dear friends,
thank you for supporting our Dacha, home for children affected by cancer and their families.
At the pediatric department of the National Cancer Institute in Kyiv children with the most complicated diagnoses from all over Ukraine are treated. Their treatment may last a year or even more and all this time they have to stay in Kyiv. Of course, they miss their home, their fathers, sisters, brothers, grannies, all their relatives and friends. And this separation is an additional stress for them. That’s why one of the main goals of our Center Dacha is to unite families, to create a space where they can be together. And when children who are fighting against cancer come to the Dacha from the hospital after painful procedures they feel support of their loved ones.
For example, at the Dacha there was Zhenia’s family from Odesa. The boy completed treatment and they went home just a few days ago. The treatment lasted more than a year: Zhenia was either hospitalized with his mom while his dad stayed at the Dacha or was temporarily discharged to be with his family. Zhenia’s mom took care of him at the hospital and his dad bought medicines and medical materials and cooked healthy meals to bring them as quickly as possible to the department. Besides, Zhenia's father was always ready to help: to repair door handles, to install heat insulation, everything that was needed. When the boy could leave the department he spent some quality time with his family at the Dacha. During holidays at school Zhenia’s elder brother came to visit him; they played games, went for a walk in Kyiv and eat ice cream together. That’s what we mean when we say that Dacha’s goal is to unite families.
Annually, almost 200 families get free accommodation at the Dacha, that is more than a half of all the patients hospitalized at the National Cancer Institute. To be able to continue this project we have to rent a house and to maintain it properly. It would be impossible without your support! Thank you!
