Free Accommodation for Kids with Cancer in Ukraine

Dear Friends,

Every day at Dacha Family House in Lviv, 4-year-old Yehor looks for buses.

He knows different models, loves watching them pass by and has built an impressive collection of toy vehicles back home. Like many children his age, he enjoys exploring, playing and discovering the world around him.

But for now, home is far away.

Yehor and his parents, Inna and Yevhenii, traveled from Odesa Oblast to Lviv so he could receive specialized medical care. During this difficult period, Dacha Family House has become their home away from home.

Yehor’s treatment journey began after what seemed like an ordinary illness. Following a bout of pneumonia, doctors noticed unusual spots on his skin and recommended further examinations. Since then, their lives have been shaped by hospital visits, tests, treatment and uncertainty.

For families facing a serious childhood illness, treatment often means spending weeks or months away from home. Parents must leave their jobs, routines and support networks behind while focusing entirely on their child’s health.

At Dacha, families can stay together during this challenging time. Instead of worrying about accommodation costs or long daily commutes, parents can remain close to the hospital and close to their child. They also find emotional support from other families who understand what they are going through.

For Yehor, Dacha offers something equally important: a chance to simply be a child. Between appointments and procedures, he plays in the playroom with his friends and spends time with his parents.

For Inna and Yevhenii, every day together is a gift. They celebrate each positive result, support one another through difficult moments and continue moving forward as a family.

Thanks to your support, Dacha Family House provides more than accommodation. It gives families a community of support, understanding and hope during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

Dear Friends of Dacha,

Today, February 24, is a day of remembrance, the day Russia launched its full-scale war to destroy Ukraine.

And yet, even through war, suffering, and uncertainty, Ukrainians still dream about waking up free. They continue to live, care, and believe in the future. This is also true for children facing serious illness and their families, who carry not one, but two struggles at once.

This is why safe, supportive spaces matter.

After building the Dacha Family House in Kyiv in 2023, and expanding to Lviv in 2024, we are now preparing to reconstruct and open Dacha in Dnipro.

Why Dnipro?

The city has the second largest children’s hospitals in Ukraine.

It now serves children from 5 regions, including frontline and occupied areas.

For many families, it is the closest place for life-saving treatment.

But treatment alone is not enough. Children need a place to feel safe, supported, and together with their family. They need a second home. They need Dacha.

Tymofiy’s story shows what Dacha means for children.

He is 5, from Mykolaiv, 500 km from Kyiv. In July 2024, he was diagnosed with cancer. He underwent chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, surgery, and immunotherapy abroad, and now continues follow-up examinations.

Throughout this journey, Tymofiy and his family stayed at Dacha.

For him, Dacha is not just a place to stay. It is where he can exhale, play, sing, and feel safe. In his own words:

"I am home."

And it is from this feeling that healing begins.
